About
KATERINA NEOFYTIDOU
katburner@yahoo.com
With an interdisciplinary approach and experimental mood, Katerina’s work explores the ephemeral Spaces of Transformation between any two bodies - whether physical, social or conceptual- such as body and architecture or conscious and unconscious. She observes their relationships, often through the lens of universal forces such as entropy, gravity or entanglement, and examines how their inter-actions can fuel tensions, fragmentations and sociopolitical transformations. The artist's efforts to counter-balance this psychological tension include sculpture, installation, video, printmaking, and 3D printing and expand into several psycho-somatic practices of qi-gong, achieving balance in upside down yoga postures and creating ridiculous meditations, while even chemical reactions, perceptual capacity and qualities such as feelings become elements of the work.
Katerina Neofytidou graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BA in Architecture and BA in Fine Arts. She lives and works in Nicosia where she later she received her MA in Fine Arts from Frederick University. She represented Cyprus in international exhibitions in Korea, China, Lausanne, Lithuania, Iceland, Greece and Skopje XIV Biennale of young artists. She received first prizes in the competition for the selection of works of art for the Famagusta Provincial court in Famagusta, in the National art competition of the Cyprus Olympic Committee and in the Research Promotion Foundation competition, as well as second prize in the Municipality of Limassol Competition for the Erection of a Monument to the Missing Persons. From 2016 until 2022 she performed duties of vice president of the Cyprus Chamber of Fine Arts and since 2018 he has been organizing and curating international artists’ residency programs and workshops. Her work is in the Cypriot State Collection of Contemporary Art, the Luciano Benetton Collection and private collections in Cyprus, Greece, U.S.A, Finland.
